WTC | Highest Wicket takers

WTC

The first-ever World Test Championship final is about to commence, and this has been an incredible journey for everyone involved. The teams, the players, and the audience all have enjoyed this initiative thoroughly. Just the bilateral series never seemed enough. Now that the WTC is coming to an end, let’s look back at some of the highest wicket-takers of this tournament.

#5 Tim Southee

World Test Championship

New Zealand’s leading bowler is also their leading wicket-taker in the WTC. He has shown great skills with the ball, especially at home. His performance against India in early 2020, in particular, was the one that was in the talks a lot. He also won the man of the series against India. And now, he is all set to take them on in the finals, where the conditions will completely be in his favor. He has taken 51 wickets in 10 matches.

#4 Nathan Lyon

World Test Championship

Home conditions, away conditions, he had everything under control and was able to pick wickets on any track he played on. Right from the first match, in the Ashes 2019, he made his position set. Though Steve Smith was the start of that match, Lyon wasn’t far off. He got 9 wickets in that match, and overall, he picked up 56 wickets in 14 matches.

#3 Ravichandran Ashwin

World Test Championship

With the perfect field, Ravi Ashwin was a nightmare for all the left-handers. Right from the start, against West Indies, Ashwin was taking back-to-back wickets. West Indies, Australia, England, he dominated every series. With an innings of 7 wickets against the West Indies, Ashwin registered the second-best figures of the WTC. He has 67 wickets so far. Hopefully, he can continue his form in the finals, considering New Zealand has a few left-handers.

#2 Stuart Broad

World Test Championship

Rotation policy was never going to affect someone like Stuart Broad. Despite this policy, he played the most number of matches amongst the top wicket-takers. Taking advantage of home conditions against Australia, Pakistan, and the West Indies, he took many wickets in these conditions. In his 17 matches, he picked up 69 wickets.

#1 Pat Cummins

World Test Championship

Pat Cummins proved why he is the number one bowler in the ICC test rankings. After some great performances against India and England, he deserves to be at the top. Stepping up against England at Headingly after Australia was dismissed at 179, without any doubt was the highlight of his run in the WTC. Despite not playing the series against South Africa, he has 70 wickets in 14 matches.

Will Pat Cummins end up as the highest wicket-taker, or will Ashwin go ahead in the finals. That is yet to be seen.
