Hockey India Withdraws From Commonwealth, Eyes Asian Games Gold.

Indian national Hockey teams will not participate in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022. Hockey India President Gyanendro Ningombam conveyed the association’s choice to Indian Olympics Association President Narinder Batra.

Indian hockey teams will rather focus at the Asian Games, which gives them a berth for the Paris Olympics in 2024. Quite, India men’s hockey team had a noteworthy run at the Tokyo Olympics where they won the bronze medal.

The women’s team, driven by Rani Rampal, arrived at the semi-last and missed a decoration just barely.

The Commonwealth Games in 2022 is in July. The games will be followed by the Asian Games in August.

“You will appreciate that the Asian games is the Continental qualification event for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and keeping the priority of the Asian Games in mind, Hockey India can not risk any members of the Indian teams contracting COVID-19 during the Commonwealth Games,” Ningombam wrote.

The choice arose due to Covid-19 concerns. A 10-day quarantine rule in the United Kingdom. The UK as of late has not accepted India’s’ COVID-19 vaccination drive. They have forced a 10-day hard quarantine on tourists from the nation. Regardless of whether they are having full vaccination against Covid-19 or not.
