Raphaël Varane

Raphaël Varane is an international footballer who plays for the France national team and Real Madrid. Varane has made over 300 appearances for the club and has won major honors, which include the Uefa champions league, FIFA club world cup, FIFA world cup, La Liga. At the age of 24, Varane won the UEFA Champions League for the third time, making him the youngest defender ever to have won the trophy three times, henceforth beating the great Paolo Maldini. Varane played for the  France youth teams, having earned caps at under-18under-20, and under-21 level, and hence made his full international debut in March 2013 and represented the country at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Varane won the 2018 FIFA World Cup

EARLY LIFE

Varane was born on 25 April 1993 in the city of Lille in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France. Raphaël started his football career at the age of seven playing for local club AS Hellemmes. Varane joined professional club RC Lens In July 2002.

Career

International

Varane was a member of the France youth international teams having earned caps at under-18 and under-21 level. Varane made his debut for the under-18 team on 24 August 2010. Raphaël earned his first under-21 cap on 3 February 2011. Varane started his first match and made his debut for France on 22 March 2013. Raphaël was included in the squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Varane became the youngest player to captain France on 14 October. Raphaël missed UEFA Euro 2016 with a thigh injury. Varane was selected in the 23-man French squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Which eventually won the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Varane is one out of four players who have been a World Cup champion and Champions League winner in the same year.

CLUB

 Before the start of the 2010–11 season, Varane signed his first professional contract with Lens. Varane was promoted to the club’s reserve team. Raphaël was called up to the senior team and was surprisingly named to the starting lineup in the match against Montpellier on 6 November 2010. Varane signed for Real Madrid on 27 June 2011, making his competitive debut for Real Madrid on 21 September 2011. In the match against Rayo Vallecano, on 24 September 2011, Varane started, and also scored his first goal for the club. Therefore becoming the youngest foreign player at 18 years and 152 days to score a goal in a competitive match for Real Madrid. Since his arrival, Varane has been an integral part of Real Madrid and has won 3 consecutive UEFA Champions League with the team.
