Here are all the live updates for the 3rd Test match of the Ashes between Australia and England taking place at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
PREVIEW : Ashes | 3rd Test
For visiting teams, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) may be an intimidating place to play. It is one of the largest stadiums in the world, and a vociferous Australian crowd cheers on their team. The job for the visiting team for this year’s Boxing Day Test match (England) will be made even more difficult by the fact that they will enter this historic arena with their backs against the wall.
England has been hammered thus far in the Ashes series, losing the first two Test matches. Australia beat their opponents by nine wickets in the first Test, which lasted only five days. Despite the fact that the second Test lasted five days, England was utterly outplayed, and the Australians thrashed the Joe Root-led side by 275 runs.
In the first innings of the second Test with the pink ball, England missed opportunities on the field, allowing Australia to score a mammoth 473-run total. The bowlers did not appear to be menacing as the Australians piled up the runs with ease.
In the second innings, the English openers were once again dismissed early. Root (80), Ben Stokes (34), Woakes (24) and Malan (62) put up a fight, but the rest of the batters failed to reach double figures. As a consequence, England was bowled out for 236 runs. Even though England bowled well in Australia’s second innings, the latter scored 236 runs to set a massive goal of 468.
