Vinesh Phogat:
Vinesh Phogat is an Indian Wrestler, who comes from a family of Successful Wrestlers, with her Cousins Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari being International wrestlers and Commonwealth Games Medalists. Vinesh Phogat was born on 25th August, 1994 in Bhiwani District, Haryana.
Achievements:
Vinesh Phogat is the first ever Indian woman wrestler to win Gold medal in both Commonwealth and Asian Games. She is also the First Indian Athlete ever to be nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award back in February, 2019. She was also facilitated with the Arjuna Award in 2016.
Career:
2013 Asian Wrestling Championship
In 2013 Asian Wrestling Championship that took place in New Delhi, India. Vinesh secured the bronze medal in the 52kg women’s freestyle category.
2013 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship
The tournament was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Losing in the Final round of the exclusive tournament to Odunayo Adekuoroye of Nigeria, Vinesh was able to finish second and secure the silver medal to her name.
2014 Commonwealth Games
Vinesh Phogat represented India for the Women’s freestyle 48kg category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and Secured the first position and the Gold medal.
2015-17:
2015 Asian Championship that took place in Doha. Vinesh Phogat came second and bagged a silver medal. In the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Rio Olympics held in Istanbul, won her final round against Iwona Matkowska and was successful in qualifying for the Olympics.
In the Summer Olympics, Rio in 2016. Phogat lost in the Quarters owing to a knee injury in the same match.
2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games
In the women’s freestyle 50kg Category, Vinesh Phogat secured the first position and a gold medal.
2018 Asian Games
Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian Woman Wrestler to win a gold medal in the Asian Games.
2019 Asian Wrestling Championship
Phogat was successful in securing the bronze medal in the Asian Wrestling Championship in 2019.
2019 Poland Open Wrestling Tournament
The Poland Open Wrestling Tournament that took place in Warsaw was the place where Phogat successfully bagged her third consecutive gold medal.
2019 World Wrestling Championship
Phogat successfully won her first World Championship medal in the Women’s 53kg Category for the bronze medal and was successful in Qualifying for Tokyo Olympics 2020. She was the first Indian Wrestler to do so.
2020:
Phogat secured the gold medal in Rome Ranking Series, in January 2020.
