The journey of Deepika Kumari: Deepika Kumari is a former world’s number one player in archary who received Arjuna award in 2012.

Who is Deepika Kumari:

In 13 June 1994, Deepika Kumari was born who is an Indian athlete and currently holding the rank World No. 9, and also she is former world’s number one in archary. In 2010 commonwealth Games, she won a gold medal in the women’s individual recurve event. In the women’s team recurve event along with Dola Banarjee and Bombayala Devi, she also won a gold medal in the same competition. In the year 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Kumari qualified there. Deepika Kumari was awarded y the Arjuna award  In the year 2012. It was awarded by President of India Pranab Mukherjee. She was honored with FICCI Sportsperson of the Year Award In February 2014. She was awarded by the civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2016. 

Early Life of Deepika Kumari:

Shivnarayan Mahato who is Deepika Kumari’s father and he is an auto-rickshaw driver and her mother name is Geeta Mahato who is a nurse at Ranchi Medical College. Her parents live at a village named Ratu Chatti, which is 15 km away from Ranchi. When she was a teen, she practised archery while aiming for mangoes with stones. At that time it was difficult for the parents to financially support Deepika’s dream. They often compromised their family budget to buy her new equipment for her training;so,  Deepika practised archery using homemade bamboo bows and arrows. After Deepika’s cousin Vidya Kumari, there was an archer residing at Tata Archery Academy, helped her to develop her talent.

Deepika Kumari’s Career:

In 2005, She entered Arjun Archery Academy, an institute set up by Meera Munda, and there she got her first breakthrough.Her professional archery journey started in the year 2006. That time she joined the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur and got a boost in her career. With proper equipment she started her training, also with a uniform. As a stipend she received Rs 500. Only after having won the Cadet World Championship title in November 2009 Deepika returned home once in her first three years there.

Deepika Kumari’s Journey in Archery World Cup:

At the 2006 Archery World Cup in Mérida, Mexico Deepika became the second Indian to win the title junior compound competition. She won a bronze in the individual event In 2015 which is Deepika’s first medal which came at the second stage of the World Cup. At the first stage of the World Cup in Shanghai in the women’s recurve event, Deepika equaled the Ki Bo-bae’s world record of (686/720) In April 2016, at the first stage of the World Cup in Shanghai.

Deepika Kumari’s Journey in Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010:

 Deepika won two gold medals, at the Delhi Commonwealth games 2010. Between this two, one in the individual event and the other in the women’s team recurve event. At the 2010 Sahara Sports Awards ceremony she was honoured with the Outstanding Performance at CWG (Female) Award for his performance in Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010.

Deepika Kumari’s Other Achievments:

Forbes (India) featured  Deepika as one of their ’30 under 30′ In 2014. At the national qualifications she finished outside the top 4. At the 21st Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok Deepika Kumari secured an Olympic quota In November 2019, at the Continental Qualification Tournament being held on the sidelines.
