Ravi Kumar Dahiya – Indian Freestyle Wrestler

Ravi kumar Dhaiya is an Indian freestyle wrestler who is commonly known as Ravi Kumar. After winning the Bronze Medal in the  2019 World Wrestling Championships in the 57 kg category he secured a place in the 2021 Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo, Japan.

EARLY LIFE:

Ravi was born on 12th December 1997 in the village of Nahri in Sonipat district, Haryana. Ravi started showing interest in wrestling from quite a young age and joine the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi where he was trained by Satpal Singh. Having huge passion and interest for wrestling he worked hard to overcome his family problems as they were not financially strong and would be a burden on them. Following a strict diet in his training his father would travel everyday for a decade to the stadium from Nahri to give him milk and fruits

CAREER:

In the 2015 Junior World Wrestling Championships held in Salvador de Bahia Dahiya won the silver  within the 55 kg freestyle category. In the 2018 World U23 Wrestling Championship in Bucharest he won the silver , India’s only medal at the competition, within the 57 kg category. In the 2019 Pro Wrestling League, representing the title winning team, Haryana Hammers Dahiya remained unbeaten. In the 2019 Asian Wrestling Championships in Xi’an He ranked fifth, after losing the 3rd position match.
In his World Championships debut in 2019, Dahiya defeated the ecu champion in the round of 16, and thereafter  the 2017 world champion  in the quarterfinal, to earn the available  place for the 2021 Summer Olympics. He settled for bronze after losing to eventual champion  in the semifinals. In the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi Dahiya bagged gold.

Achievements:

  • Ravi Kumar Dahiya made his international debut at the age of 17 when he represented India at the 2015 World Junior Wrestling Championships, where he won a Silver medal
  • At the 2018 World U23 Wrestling Championships, he had earned a Silver medal.
  • In 2019 at his debut World Wrestling Championships he won Bronze medal and he got the ticket to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
  • He finished 5th at the Asian Wrestling Championships.
  • 2020 was a special year for Ravi as he earned his 1st International Gold Medal in his wrestling career.
