Nethra is an Indian woman sailor. She  represents India internationally in many events.

Nethra Kumanan was born on 21st August 1997. She lives in Chennai which is situated in Tamil Nadu. Her father is an IT professional and runs his own IT firm.

Nethra  joined the summer camp organized by Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) in 2009 where she joined to sail at a age of 12 . Before pursuing her interest in sailing , she had participated other sports including tennis, basketball, and cycling . She used to do Bharatnatyam dancing and credits Bharatnatyam to make herself discipline.

Nethra Kumanan used to get her training from Hungarian sailor . Apart from sailing, she was  studying  engineering from SRM University and determined to get her engineering degree.


Nethra Kumanan won her first international medal by winning Bronze in Laser Radial at the India in 2014 .  she achieved her first senior national title at the YAI Senior National Championship in Mumbai in 2015.

she achieve  a Silver medal at the Hong Kong Race Week which held in 2015 . In 2016, Nethra won the Gold medal at the Multiclass Senior Nationals in Mumbai . A year later, in August, she got   Silver medal at the Multiclass Sailing Championship in Bhopal .  She also got a silver medal from YAI senior national championship.

In July 2018, Nethra got   Silver medal  at the YAI Senior National Championship . Exactly a year later, she won  a Bronze medal at the Hyderabad Sailing competition .

Nethra Kumanan made her international debut in 2014 at the ISAF Youth Worlds Championship in Portugal, where she finished 40th in the  event.

In 2015, Nethra won  the Bronze medal in Laser Radial at the ASAF Cup Finals in Jakarta . In 2016 , she failed to make it in RIO Olympics .

Nethra took part in the Asian Sailing Championship in 2018 and finished campaign by finishing 6th position. She participated Asian games and finished in 4th position .

 Nethra achieved  the Bronze medal at the  World Cup  In January ,2020.

AFTER THAT She also the first woman to qualify the sailing and also participated and qualify for the Rio Olympics  in event which was in mussah . From this , she qualify for Olympic 2021 which will be held in Tokyo.
