Chadalavada Anandha Sunhararaman Bhavani Devi also known as CA Bhavani Devi is India’s first woman to qualify for the Olympics.
She will make her first-ever appearance in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. She is the only Indian who entered the top 50 rankings of fencing in the world.
Bhavani was born on the 27th August 1993 in a middle-class family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. In 2004 she was introduced to fencing at the school level . She was schooling at Muruga Dhanush kodi Girls’ Higher Secondary School.
After doing her X, she went and joined the Sports Authority of India Centre in Thalassery, in 2007. She appeared at her first international tournament in Turkey when she was 14 years old. In 2010, she bagged a bronze medal in the Asian Championship in the Philippines.
Medals and tournaments
In 2009 at the commonwealth championship which was held in Malaysia she grabbed a bronze medal. She has won many medals including a bronze in 2010 at the international open, bronze in the 2010 cadet Asian championship and in the Asian championship. Silver and bronze in the commonwealth game 2012 held in jersey.
At the Asian championship, she won a silver medal in the under-23 category and became the first Indian to do so.
she won a bronze in the under-23 Asian Championship In 2015 and in 2015 Flemish open held in Belgium, for this she received 3 Lakh as a reward from J Jayalalithaa former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
She became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the world cup event in Reykjavik, Iceland IN 2017.
At the senior commonwealth Fencing championship in Australia in 2018 Bhavani made history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal.
She won silver and a bronze medal in 2019 in the Tournoi Satellite Fencing competition held in Belgium and Iceland.
Bhavani is the first Indian to qualify for Olympics in her sport and currently, she is practising for Tokyo Olympic 2021.
