Indian Discuss thrower Seema Punia has booked herself a birth to the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She won the gold medal at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships with a record throw of 63.72 m.
The Professional Uttar Pradesh thrower opened her 59.31m Olympic qualifying campaign and booked a place at the Olympics on the fourth try.
She began with a 63.41m throw before two fouls, aimed at a 69m effort on June 21. She followed the 62.33m jump and created her new 66.69m National Record.
The Olympic qualifier was improved by Seema, 37, at 63.50m. Her performance on Tuesday was also better than the 62.49m record set in Chennai by Neelam J. Singh in 2000.
