In the 6th match of PSL 2021, Pakistan captain Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan set the highest opening partnership record in PSL (176), breaking the previous record of Liam Livingston and Babar Azam.
These two players, for Karachi Kings against Islamabad United, opened the first innings and were looking in great touch from the very start. Babar Azam played the role of the anchor in this innings and Sharjeel Khan went all out in his attack.
They added a partnership of 176 runs in 109 balls and broke the previous record of 157 runs.
Sharjeel Khan was playing the lofted shots and was hitting the ball in the air, and Babar Azam was looking for gaps and was hitting the ball for ground shots.
End of the Partnership:
These two looked strong until Babar Azam was run out in the 19th over and Sharjeel Khan followed him on the very next ball.
Azam scored 62 runs and Khan scored 105 runs in 59 balls with a strike rate of almost 180. He hit 9 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. They gave Islamabad United a target of 197 runs.
Result of the Match:
They, unfortunately, could not defend the total, but that is the nature of T20 cricket. This lost match cannot take away from them the record of the highest total and they can surely be proud of it.
