In the encounter between Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans, we witnessed another incredible chase. 190 plus targets do not seem that huge these days, this was the third time in nine matches in this season that a target over 190 was chased down.
Babar Azam, for Karachi Kings, has been striking the ball cleanly. In the previous match against Islamabad United, he took responsibility for strokeplay in the innings. Since Sharjeel Khan was hitting the ball in the air, he anchored the innings and was hitting grounded strokes. He scored 62 runs.
In this match, Azam altered his game technique. They were batting second this time and had a huge total to reach. He was playing smart T20 cricket, hitting lofted shots only when required and hitting the balls on the ground otherwise. He got the support of Joe Clarke on the other end and he made most of the deliveries he got in his zone and was able to hit a few sixes.
They were given a target of 196 runs to chase. Big targets such as this, need a calculated approach. You need to pace your innings properly and stay in sync with the required run rate. Kings were successful in doing so, with Babar Azam scoring 90 not out in 60 balls, and Joe Clarke scoring 54 runs in 26 balls.
