Pro Kabaddi League: Can Gujarat Giants win their maiden title? | Team Preview, Schedule, Squad, News.

PREVIEW : GUJARAT GIANTS

Gujarat Giants is one of the strongest defensive teams in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League. The Giants joined the Pro Kabaddi League before the fifth edition of the tournament and made it to the final in their first two seasons. However, the Patna Pirates beat them in Season 5, while the Bengaluru Bulls defeated them in the summit clash to become Season 6 champions which were pretty unfortunate from their point of view.

One of the most major reasons for this is the presence of two of the best cover defenders of the country on their side, Sunil Kumar and Parvesh Bhainswal. This year the Sunil and Parvesh ‘Jodi’ has been retained along with two corner defenders Ankit and Sumit which makes them a stunning defensive core. If they bring their ‘A-game to the table and continue their consistent performances for the team, the lethal cover duo can definitely carry Gujarat a long way.

Gujarat side has always struggled with their defensive corners. Coach Manpreet Singh has thus added a ton of experience in the corners by signing the likes of Ravinder Pahal and Girish Maruti Ernak at the Pro Kabaddi 2021 auction. This is their attempt to fill in the blanks in the formidable Gujarat defence.

NEW SIGNING IN THE AUCTION :

Along with the defence, they have a lot of options up front while raiding too. They have added their former stars Mahendra Rajput and Ajay Kumar to the squad. Mahendra is an agile raider using his height to his advantage, while Ajay is a do-or-die raid specialist and the two of them make a lethal combination. Rathan K is another young talent that’ll make his debut and is an exciting talent that can prove to be an x-factor in the raiding department.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR –

Some of the players to watch out for include names like Pardeep Kumar, Manninder Singh, Sunil Kumar, Hadi Oshtorak and Girish Maruti Ernak. Overall the squad balance does look slightly mediocre as the raiding looks very much on the weaker side on paper. The defence on the other hand looks very solid and all the top raiding teams will have a task in hand to get past the defence unit of the Giants. It’s a double-edged sword which if works in Gujarat’s favour, can work wonders for them.
