Indian Freestyle wrestler Anshu Malik all set to appear in the Tokyo Olympics 2021 has retracted her name from the Poland Open after getting a fever. Anshu is currently quarantined until the COVID test results are delivered.
Anshu’s parents were tested COVID positive last month. She and her brother stayed in a hotel in Rohtak until her parents had fully recovered from the virus. Later, when she returned she started suffering from multiple COVID-19 symptoms.
It might be a big blow to the Indian Sports Community regarding the Tokyo Olympics 2021.
Anshu Malik: History And Achievements
Indian freestyle wrestler Anshu Malik was born on 5th August 2001. She is a natural wrestler. Her father Dharamvir Malik, himself was an International Wrestler. He also worked as a CISF personnel.
Anshu Malik won a bronze medal in the Asian Wrestling Championship. The Championship was held in Delhi, India in 2020. She qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2021 through the Asian Olympic Qualifier. The qualifiers were held in Almaty in April this year.
Anshu has even won a gold medal in the 60 kg category of the Cadet Wrestling Championships.
All in all Anshu is a serious potential for the Indian Wrestling department in the Olympics.
Tokyo Olympics 2021: Current Scenario
As of now, two names have been withdrawn from the series preceding the Tokyo Olympics.
Deepak Punia had earlier withdrawn from the men’s freestyle 86kg competition because of an elbow injury. He will remain with the team till July 5. He is currently at the training camp organized by the Polish Federation.
