Tokyo Olympics 2020 Opening Ceremony

Tokyo Olympics 2020 Opening Ceremony Highlights

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 has officially begun. The Games have begun with the traditional Opening Ceremony. Emperor Naruhito headed the ceremony and officially declared the Olympics to have begun.

This Olympics has witnessed an unprecedented amount of obstacles. Even the Opening Ceremony was nothing like it has always been. The Opening Ceremony officially started when Japanese Tennis Star Naomi Osaka lit the Olympic cauldron. Organizers then paid their tributes to the medical workers all around the globe for their efforts in these tough times. The stadium was almost empty with less than a thousand people in attendance. What once was a massive cheerful event was rather a dull job this year. This is of course no one’s fault. The stadium was quiet and the attendees were asked to maintain silence around the venue.

Strict social distancing protocols were enforced. Even the athletes in the Olympic parade had their lovely faces hidden underneath the masks. As for India, the contingent was lead by Men’s Hockey Team Captain Manpreet Singh and six-time World champion Mark Kom as the flag bearers.

Today is a moment of hope. We can only be here because of Japanese people. Preparing for the Games was a difficult journey with unprecedented challenges.

IOC President Thomas Bach said
