Tokyo Olympics 2021 Highlights: Mary Kom, PV Sindhu, Manika Batra win

India’s women athletes shined on Day 2 of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Six-time World champion MC Mary Kom defeated her rival Miguelina Hernandez Garcia in the Women’s Flyweight (51kg) in the round of 32. Also, there Manika Batra advanced to the next round in the women’s singles table tennis. He was making a comeback against her rival Margaryta Pestoksa.

Earlier, shuttler PV Sindhu won her first women’s singles badminton match at Tokyo Olympics 2021 today. Indian shooters continued to disappoint after a poor show on Day 2. Sindhu defeated Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova in straight sets as the match ended in 37 minutes.

Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Deswal failed to qualify for the women’s 10m Air Pistol finals. Unfortunately, they finished 12th and 13th, respectively in the qualification round.

In hockey, India’s men’s hockey team was thrashed by Australia 7-1. India will take on Spain for a much-needed win to advance beyond the group stage.

India’s 10m air rifle events came to a sad end. Following the women’s failure to qualify for the final, the men follow suit. Deepak Kumar came in 26th place with a score of 624.7. Also, Divyansh Panwar came in 32nd place with a score of 622.8 on Day 2 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Arvind Singh and Arjun Lal have qualified for semifinals A/B in Men’s lightweight double sculls.

Indian men’s hockey team will lock horns with Australia at 3 pm IST after winning their first match in Tokyo 2020 while Mary Kom’s match will begin at 1:30 pm IST.

Indian swimmers also had a tough time today. Maana Patel clocked 1:05.20 in the women’s 100m backstroke heats, finishing 39th overall. She failed to qualify for the semis.

Srihari Nataraj finished 27th overall in the men’s 100m backstroke heats. Depending on this he failed to qualify for the semis. He clocked 54.31s.

Badminton women’s singles: PV Sindhu beats Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10

Women’s 10m air pistol: Manu Bhaker (12th position) and Yashaswini Deswal (13th position) bow out in the qualification round.

Men’s lightweight double sculls: Arjun Lal and Arvind Singh into semifinal A/B

Women’s doubles tennis: Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina lost to Ukraine’s Nadiia Kichenok and Liudmyla Kichenok (6-0, 6-7, 8-10).

Table Tennis, men’s singles second round: Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-5, 9-11, 10-12, 6-11 to Hong Kong’s Lam Siu Hang.

Artistic gymnastics: Pranati Nayak finished at 16th position with a total score of 42.565.

Sailing, women’s laser radial: Nethra Kumanan 27th overall after two races (out of 10)
