Lenny D’Gama will be the only Indian Technical official at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He will be subjected to evaluating the referees and judges along with two other officials.
The 67-year-old has decades’ experience as a referee/judge, an experienced technical officer at Goa. He has served in several continental and world championships. He was an Asian Championships evaluator in Dubai in May most recently.
Lenny D’Gama will be on the team of three international technical staff in Tokyo to evaluate the arbitrators and judges during the fighting in order to ensure credibility.
According to the rules of AIBA, an evaluator is required to assess the referee during the competition, calculate the evaluation score and provide immediate feedback if necessary.
The new Evaluation System introduced by the IOC is to ensure that the mistakes of the Rio 2016 Olympics are not repeated.
For alleged misadministration of governance and finances, AIBA was suspended in 2019. The IOC was responsible for running the Games and qualifying tournaments. The reason for this was the discrepancy in the results at the 2016 Rio Games.
In the 2016 Olympics in Rio, there were 36 referees and judges who had to step aside. The judging scandal was massive.
This is an event for many first-timers from India. Former Gymnast Deepak Kabra will also become the first Indian Judge in the Gymnastics Competition at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
