Indian Army Athletes To Compete At The Tokyo Olympics 2020

The Indian Army is not limited to safeguarding our borders and territories. Sports and athleticism have been an integral part of the education provided at the top-armed forces institutes. This is the reason why the Indian Army has given our nation so many outstanding sportspersons.

Let us have a look at the Indian Army athletes that will be competing at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Amit Panghal (Boxing)

India’s Start Boxing Champion Amit Panghal gets a bit of a morale boost right before the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He was ranked as World’s No.1 Boxer on Saturday in the men’s 52 Kg category by the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Boxing Task Force (BTF).

Amit Panghal is a subedar in the Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army. He is the best hope of India for winning a medal in boxing.

Manish Kaushik (Boxing)

Another name in the boxing fraternity from the Army is Manish Kaushik. He serves in the Army as Joint Commissioned Officer. The Haryanvi Boxer won a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He also won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championship.

Satish Kumar (Boxing)

Yet another name in boxing is Satish Kumar. The 91 Kg category boxer joined the Army in 2008. Since then he has won numerous medal including a bronze at the 2014 Asian Games.

Avinash Sable (Athletics)

Avinash Sable, member of the Mahar Regiment of the Army, represents Indian in a 3000 m steeplechase. He holds the national record of 8:20:21. Sable won thee silver medal at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championship.

Neeraj Chopra (Athletics)

Neeraj joined the Army as the Joint Commissioned Officer in 2016. He holds the current national record of javelin throw of 88.07 m. He won gold medals at the 2018 Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games.
