Image result for NEW ZEALAND VS WEST INDIES 2019 WORLD CUP MATCH NO. 29

West Indies started this tournament with a massive win over Pakistan where in they folder the Asian team for a paltry total of 105, but they haven’t been able to produce anything similar after that. Their performance against the Australians in their next match was commendable, but they failed to garner those two points, as their batsmen failed to chase down a relatively comfortable to chase total on that surface.

Coming into the tournament, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell were two of their leading players who were heavily depended upon to produce the goods. With the race to the semi-finals beginning to tighten up and West Indies needing to win all their remaining matches, the likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, and Evin Lewis would have to unleash themselves in their remaining fixtures.

Although it’s been a slow climb for the Kiwis without any flamboyance whatsoever, they’ve steadily strengthened their position at the top of the table. They are yet to face a defeat in the tournament and are currently at the second spot with nine points in five games, behind Australia.

One could argue that all of their wins have been against the easier teams to face, but the performance they have displayed in all three departments of the game has been commendable.

While they do not really have a significant problem to address as of now with most of their batsmen being amongst the runs and bowlers picking up wickets, the inconsistency of Colin Munro and Martin Guptill at the top of the might be a cause of concern – to pinpoint one.

They have an exceptionally well-balanced batting lineup with the aggression of Munro and Guptill at the top and the calmness and experience of Williamson and Taylor to follow. It was the depth of their lineup which was responsible for their win over South Africa in the last match, coupled of course with the splendid knock from Kane Williamson. With batting doing well and a balanced bowling attack, the Kiwis are a formidable unit and may go all the way in the tournament.
