Sir Mohamed Muktar Jama Farah or Mo Farah has lost his last chance of competing at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The British athlete failed to qualify the mark of 27 min 28 seconds at the special race at the British Athletics Championship.
The four-time Olympic Gold medallist failed after missing the 10000m qualifying standard by 19 seconds at the British Olympic trials in Manchester.
The 38-year old Farah won a Grand Double when he secured the 5,000 m and 10,000m gold medal at the 2012 London and the 2016 Rio Olympics. He finished at the eighth position in the European Athletics 10,000m Cup in Birmingham. Farah finished with a time of 27:50:54. It was his slowest since 2014.
At another race on Friday, he failed once again. Though his time was marginally better this time, it just wasn’t enough. He finished with a final time of 27:47.04. Farah was good at the beginning of the race, however, he started to lose pace after the 6,000 m mark.
Mo Farah seems to have realised that he is no more physically capable for the challenge that his sport poses.
It’s a tough one. I’ve had an amazing career, thinking about it tonight it’s a bit shocking and I don’t really know what to say. I’m lucky enough to have so many medals. I’m one of these athletes who, if you can’t compete with the best, why bother? Maybe it’s time to spend time with my kids.Mo Farah
