Once again 140 crore eyes cried and of course, our eyes will be moist we have lost the 2023 World Cup title again after 12 years. This time from the World Cup, the whole country was hopeful that the World Cup would be ours but perhaps it was not our time yesterday. The dream is broken but the hope is not broken, yet India has given a very good performance.
Before this game, Team India was unbeaten, but one poor performance left them empty-handed. They were never going to have a difficult score in the finals, as they only scored 240 runs while batting first. India fell short of Australia in a few categories. We shall discuss some reasons that India was unable to win the trophy in the finals here. While few predicted that Team India would lose the 2023 Cricket World Cup final, supporters’ hopes of breaking the ICC trophy curse were dashed on Sunday when Australia defeated India in their own stadium.
Here are some reasons why India lost the World Cup 2023
Insufficient Boundaries
Although India lost Shubman Gill early in the ten overs, they were 80/2, the momentum swung against them after that. The Men in Blue could not establish limits, and runs stopped occurring. India actually scored 241 runs, which was short of expectations given that they scored 12 boundaries in the opening 10 overs but only 4 in the next 40 overs.
Bad Choice of shots
When a player is up, it’s critical that he continues to drive in runs, as Travis Head did in the second inning of the major finals. Early on, he bought some time and then profited. Both Rohit Sharma (47), and Virat Kohli (54), got off to strong starts for India, but none of them could muster a significant total. They both actually made a poor shot and were out. After Rohit played a big shot, Virat was chopped and was out to Maxwell. A few more runs may have been scored by India if any of them had been able to stay for a longer period of time.
The Effect of Dew
Dew was one of the main factors that made Indian spinners less effective. Australian hitters, especially Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne, were able to establish a significant partnership because of the damp ball’s lack of turn.
Lost Wickets Repeatedly
India had no significant middle-tier collaboration. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were the only two players to have a partnership of 50 or more during the entire innings. It just had one boundary and took longer than eighteen overs. A major factor in India’s inability to record a high total was the absence of any meaningful collaboration aside from that. In the previous few games, India formed some significant alliances, but that was not the case today.

Excessive Runs Were Rewarded:
Australia was superior over India not only when it came to bat and ball play, but also when it came to ball play. They put pressure on India by diving and throwing themselves to preserve as many runs as they could. India went nearly 20 overs without scoring a boundary at one point. However, the second inning was very different. India’s bowlers failed to bowl a tight line and their fielding was subpar. They didn’t aid the cause either by giving additional runs and bowling several loose deliveries. India defended 241 and conceded 18 runs in excess.
Incompatible Strategies :
It was mostly due to the Ahmedabad pitch, which was dryer and slower than anticipated. The slower quality of the pitch did not help India’s plan, which failed to adjust efficiently, particularly in the second innings when conditions shifted.
The Forceful Batting of Australia :
It was a wise move for the Australian team to bat aggressively right away. Their front-runners, especially Travis Head, continued to press the chase hard, making it less difficult.
Poor captaincy :
Last but not least, a major contributing factor to the defeat in the championship game was inadequate leadership. India needed to break the Head and Labuschagne stand to stay in the game, but Rohit Sharma’s spinners were lacking in slip. The two Australian batters each edged a ball, but no slip was made to catch it. Even though Rohit performed flawlessly throughout the competition, on the day of the final, he fell short of his best.
