ICC World Cup Started on 5th October and a series of exciting matches was held which made this league more exciting but behind this excitement some disappointments also fell into the hands of players and also the teams. Players practice for years and years to give their best in the World Cup and make their dreams come true by taking the trophy back to their country but one injury of theirs can land them into trouble and can be excluded from this series.
Players like Naseem Shah, Anrich Nortje, and Wanindu Hasaranga were some of the important players who were ruled out during the start of the ICC World Cup 2023, and this list gets updated from time to time. Recently, Hardik Pandya, Glen Maxwell, Shadab Khan, Kane Williamson, Shakib Al Hasan, etc suffered injuries and were ruled out of the game till the time they fully recovered.
So, here is the list of 10 players who got injured and have been ruled out –
1) Hardik Pandya –
Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury against Bangladesh on October 19 while he was trying to save the straight drive ball in which he twisted his ankle and got injured. Till now no news has been put officially by the board but it is sure that he will be a match against SA.
2) Kane Williamson –
Kane Williamson got a hip injury while playing for the Gujarat Titans in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and his recovery took months but I think luck is not favoring his hard work. After recovery, he was playing against Bangladesh and was on the score of 77. While going for an unconfident single, a throw from Shoriful Islam hit his right thumb and got that thumb fractured.
3) Wanindu Hasaranga –
The star player of the Sri Lanka team missed the World Cup due to a hamstring injury. While playing for the play-offs in the Lanka Premiere League where he was the highest scorer and top wickets taker, he got injured.
3) Rishabh Pant –
He faced a major accident last year in December and came out from the brim of death. He got several injuries from hand, spine to legs. He is recovering slowly and steadily and might play for Team India in a few upcoming months.
4) Glenn Maxwell –
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will not be a part of his team as he got injured while carting on a golf course and sustained a cranial injury and is likely to miss the match against England.
5) Shakib- Al Hasan –
Shakib Al Hasan suffered a severe left quadriceps injury during Bangladesh’s match against New Zealand in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. Despite the pain, he soldiered on to score 40 runs in 51 balls and bowl all ten of his overs. But now a piece of fresh news is coming that he has been ruled out of his last World Cup owing to his fractured finger (left index finger). Anamul Haque has replaced him after taking all clearances from the ICC.
Shakib’s injury occurred while he was playing he was playing at a score of 82 against Sri Lanka. According to physio Bayjedul Islam Khan, Shakib suffered the injury in the early part of his batting stint.
6) Shadab Khan –
Pakistan’s Shadab Khan suffered a concussion after falling while fielding against South Africa in Chennai. He had to be taken off the field immediately and was replaced by Usama Mir. This was the third injury he faced from September 2022.
7) Reece Topley –
Reece Topley, a bowler for England and Surrey, will miss the rest of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup after breaking his left index finger during England’s loss to South Africa on Saturday. He got injured while playing against South Africa and got thrashed for 399 runs.
8) Matt Henry –
New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry has been ruled out of the rest of the Cricket World Cup with a torn hamstring and will be replaced by fellow fast bowler Kyle Jamieson. Henry broke down midway through his sixth over during the Black Caps’ crushing 190-run defeat against South Africa in a group game on Wednesday.
9) Dasun Shanaka –
Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka is out of the World Cup due to a thigh injury sustained against Pakistan on Tuesday. Angelo Matthews and Chameera came as a replacement for Captain Dasun Shanaka.
10) Axar Patel –
Axar sustained a tear in the quadriceps during Asia Cup 2023 and unluckily failed to recover till the World Cup so R. Ashwin was called on in place of Axar Patel.
