India Men’s Cricket team became the no. 1 team in all formats by replacing Pakistan at the top of the ICC ODI team rankings after their five-wicket win over Australia at Mohali’s PCA IS Bindra Stadium on Friday, September 22. It is a rare and historic feat for the players and fans as India dominates the No. 1 rankings in all three formats. Men In Blue became the second team after South Africa to achieve this milestone.
India Became No. 1 In All Formats
India, Pakistan, and Australia are in the race to become the no. 1 team in ODI rankings ahead of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. After losing the Asia Cup, Pakistan was still on top but India’s triumph over Australia put India on top with 116 points. In the Test, the India team is already on top with 118 points, on a level with Australia. On the other hand, India dominates in the T20I with 264 points, three more than the second-placed England team. If Team India wins the series against Australia then Team India will enter the upcoming ICC World Cup as the no.1 team across formats.

Shami’s Five Wicket Haul
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul led the Indian side and produced an impressive all-round performance against Australia in Mohali. Mohammed Shami who played in place of the no.1 ODI bowler Mohammed Siraj introduced his career-best figures in ODIs by taking five wickets. Australia made a challenging total of 276 runs in 50 overs with David Warner top-scoring with 52 runs.
Openers Seized The Match
Indian opener Shubman Gill & Ruturaj Gaikwad with all guns blazing at the start of the innings and later both completed their half-century. Gill became the top scorer for India with 74 runs off 63 balls. In the middle phase of the game, India’s team struggled a bit but fifties from KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav guided India to a five-wicket win with eight balls remaining.
