Team India’s last-minute change to their World Cup squad as the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin replaces injured Axar Patel in the final 15-member squad. Ravichandran Ashwin traveled with the team to Guhawati as India will play their first warmup match of the World Cup, against the defending champions England on 30th September.
Ashwin 3rd Appearance In ODI World Cup
Ashwin has played only 4 ODI matches since the start of 2018, but the senior off-spinner gets backing from the team management and as a result, he was included in the squad for the ODI series which was recently-concluded against Australia. It will be Ashwin’s 3rd World Cup appearance, as well as Ashwin and Kohli are the two members of the current squad who played in the memorable 2011 World Cup.

Ashwin’s Magical Bowling Seized His Place In Final 15 men-squad
Ashwin was fabulous in the two opportunities he got, picking up 4 wickets in the first 2 ODI matches against Australia. The veteran off-spinner Ashwin bamboozled the Australian batters with his skill and made a clear statement about his place in the squad. Although he was rested in the 3rd ODI against Australia on Wednesday. Well, it was clear to all that India had plans when Ashwin traveled with the team to Guhawati.
India Choose Experience Over Youth
The last-minute addition of Aswin comes as Axar Patel suffered a quadriceps strain in the Asia Cup match against Bangladesh in September. Young off-spinner Washington Sundar replaced Axar Patel in the final match of the Asia Cup who was also in the race to replace in the World Cup squad. However, Ashwin’s performance in the recent series against Australia was terrific and his vast experience seems to have worked in his favour.
