A bizarre incident took place when Sri Lankan player Angelo Mathews was given out based on the “Timed Out” rule. The incident occurred in the 25th over when Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed for Mathews’s dismissal. He came out in time from his dugout but his helmet’s strap broke, he wanted to replace but this scenario took some time, and Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed for his dismissal.
Despite his repetitive efforts to explain the situation both Umpire and Shakib went on to withdraw their decision. This is the first time in the history of cricket that a player got out on the “Time Out” rule. This decision of Bangladesh would re-ignite the rivalry among them and might disrupt the feelings of fans.
“Timed-Out” is the rarest mode of dismissal in International and Domestic Cricket. It occurs when a new batsman fails to enter the crease from his dugout within three minutes and isn’t ready to play the ball within the time frame.
