After India’s magnificent run in Cricket World Cup 2023, which unfortunately did not end up in India lifting the trophy, it’s time out for Rahul Dravid as India’s cricket team head coach. Rahul Dravid’s contract has come to an end after the CWC’23. As per the reports, Rahul Dravid is not keen to extend his tenure with the Indian Cricket team. Hence, BCCI will have to look for another Head coach.
Rahul Dravid Tenure
Rahul Dravid’s tenure as a coach has been very effective, the dressing room has looked very happy and united but the major concerns have been India losing in the ICC tournaments. With all the experience that Rahul Dravid has, he has been unable to help India bring home major trophies.
Rahul Dravid was given a 2-year contract in 2021 to be the Head Coach of Team India. The BCCI is yet to speak on the matter officially but if rumors are to be believed, VVS Laxman who is currently the chief of National Cricket Academy will be taking up the highest responsibility of Indian Cricket.
Rahul Dravid’s Replacement
We have narrowed down a few ex-cricketers who might be the perfect fit to replace Rahul Dravid as Indian Cricket team head coach ;
- VVS Laxman –
The Indian cricket team legend VVS Laxman, who is also the Head of the National Cricket Academy is the frontrunner for the top-level job. VVS Laxman is eager to take up this job as well. Laxman has very well managed the NCA and also has a personality that will be loved by the Indian Dressing room as well.
2. Virendra Sehwag –
Another well-known cricket legend who has also tasted success in ICC events could be another prospect that BCCI might want to look into. Sehwag had earlier shown interest in coaching team India 2 years ago when he submitted the application as well but was not selected. It is very unlikely that Sehwag will do the same this time but if BCCI is interested they will have to do some convincing.
3. Ashish Nehra –
Ashish Nehra the legendary pacer of the Indian Cricket team can also be considered for the elite job. Currently, Ashish Nehra is serving as the head coach of Gujarat Titans. Under the coaching of Nehra, Gujarat Titans have seen a lot of success in the two seasons that they have played. In their inaugural season, they lifted the IPL trophy and in the consecutive series, they lost to CSK in the Finals.
BCCI could also look to hire a foreign coach as our last ICC success came under a foreign coach Gary Kirsten, the top name which comes to our mind is the Australian Legend “Justin Langer”, under whose guidance the Australian team has tasted a lot of success.
We think India desperately needs a coach who knows how to win the major ICC trophies and how to handle the pressure at the peak moments. BCCI has some work to do before appointing a new Indian Cricket Team Coach.
