Narendra Modi Stadium | World’s Largest Cricket Stadium:
Previously named as the Motera Stadium or the Sardar Patel Stadium, it has now been renamed as The Narendra Modi Stadium after the prime minister of India. Mr. Narendra Modi had been the former Chief Minister of Gujarat and the president of the Gujarat Cricket Association.
The stadium is situated in the state of Gujarat and was inaugurated by the president of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind on 24th of February 2020. The stadium resides within the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
It is an ideal location for conducting cricket matches of different formats and is governed by Gujarat Cricket Association.
Many eminent politicians were present during the inaugural ceremony such as Amit Shah (Home Minister of India), Kiren Rijiju (Sports minister of India) and secretary of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Jay Shah.
Narendra Modi Stadium| | History and background:-
Motera stadium was built in the year 1983 after which it was revamped in 2006. It hosted many international matches on regular basis before being demolished in 2015. The total budget for its reconstruction is approximately Rs 800 crore, which would be $110 million dollars.
This stadium was the dream project of Mr. Narendra Modi when he was the Chief minister of Gujarat, that is why it is renamed after him. Besides hosting national as well as international cricket matches it hosted several other events of the state of Gujarat.
The cricket world cups played in the years 1987, 1996, and 2011 were also held in this stadium. The stadium has been the hosting cricket tournaments which include 1 T20 match, 23 one day matches and 12 test matches till the year 2014.
The stadium’s first day and night test match (pink ball) was held on 24th February 2021 played between India and England.
Architecture and design
The renovation of this massive stadium has been done across the 63 acres of land occupied by it which is roughly equal to (32 Olympic sized football playground clubbed together). In comparison to the old structure which has one entrance the new version have three entrances.
It is divided into 76 corporate boxes which can occupy up to 25 people. Apart from this the new version has its own swimming pool which is equal to the size of an Olympic pool. A club house is also present in the stadium which can accommodate up to 55 persons.
It also has 11 center fields on the main ground which is one of its kinds in the world. It is a treat for sports person since it contains 4 dressing rooms with LED light fittings on the roof instead of traditional flash lights.
The LED light fittings are lined over a fire resistant blind made with PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) material. The reconstructed stadium does not have any pillar which provides audience with unobstructed view from any place within the Stadium.
Narendra Modi stadium has a huge parking lot with a maximum capacity of 10,000 for two-wheeler vehicles and 3000 cars. Currently, a skywalk is under construction which is said to connect the Metro station to ease traffic.
