The day two of the 4th test match at the oval was no less than a seesaw ride. England who were held 53/3 by the visitors on day one, continued with their innings. The hosts lost two quick wickets courtesy of a fiery spell by speedster Umesh Yadav. Bairstow and Pope steadied the ship along with Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes. Thus, giving a first innings lead of 99 runs to the hosts.
Let’s have a look what happened on Day two:
Pope And Woakes Shine
The two new additions to the England side have come really good. Pope scored a brilliant 81 after England had slumped to 62/5. Pope looked sharp and was taking the attack to the Indian bowlers and didn’t shy away from playing aggressively. Chris Woakes proved why is he so vital for team England. His gritty fifty staged the path and eventually putting the hosts in the driver’s seat. He always manages to be the difference in the matches that he plays. Credit should also be given to Bairstow and Ali’s crucial knocks under pressure.
Steady Start For India
After the Indian seamers got the better of the English batting line up, it was now for the batsmen to step up for the WTC finalists. Openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have given a solid start to India considering the last three innings when the pair has batted on the tour. England bowlers did ask some questions with the new ball but nothing significant was witnessed from the wicket in the final session. India will hope to quickly score the remaining 56 runs and then build a big lead over England. It’s a great opportunity for India to win the series in England after 14 years.
