Ilkay Gundogan is a football player from Germany who plays for Premier League club Manchester City and the German national team as a midfielder.

Ilkay Gundogan was born in Gelsenkirchen, North-Rhine- Westphalia on 24th October 1990 in a Turkish family.
He is a German with a Turkish ethnicity. His parents are Irfan Gundogan (father) and Ayten Gundogan(mother)
Ilkay’s cousin, Naz Aydemir is a volleyball player and she plays for the Turkish national team.

In his youth days he has played with several youth ranks of German football clubs as SV Gelsenkirchen –Hessler 06, Schalke 04, SSV Buer and VFL Bochum.
In 2008 Ilkay joined Vfl Bochum main team and after that, he signed with the German Bundesliga football club
He scored his first goal in the Bundesliga against Bayern Munich in 2010.
On 5 May Ilkay signed a four-year contract for a transfer fee of 4 million euros with another Bundesliga team, Borussia Dortmund.
In 2011 he made his debut against Schalke 04. He played an important role in securing top German cup-like Bundesliga in 2011 and DFL Supercup in 2013.
On 17 December 2011, he scored his first goal for the cup against SC Freiburg.
Later in 2016 Ilkay signed a four-year contract with English football club, Manchester City FC for a transfer fee of 20 million Euros.
He made his Manchester City debut against Borussia Monchengladbach and he even secured a penalty for the club.
Ilkay played for German under-18, under-19, and under-20 and under-21 teams.
He made his senior debut on 11 October 2011 for Germany during UEFA Euro Qualifiers against Belgium.
On 26 March 2013, he scored his first international goal against Kazakhstan during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.
