1. Virat Kohli (22 years)
Virat Kohli became the next big thing in cricket after the 2011 World Cup with his batting and on-field skills. In 2011 Daniel Vettori was not fit for one of the matches of RCB and then the management decided to let Virat Kohli take charge of the team. Kohli was 22 years, 4 months and 6 days old back then.
Two years later, i.e. in 2013 Virat Kohli was appointed as the regular captain for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. From then we have seen a great player and an even better captain emerging. Virat Kohli also led Team India in all three formats.
2. Steve Smith(22 years)
Steve Smith played for Pune Warriors in the IPL 2012 season. He also led the team in one match that season. Pune lost that match. After 3 years, Steve Smith was appointed as the Rajasthan Royal’s full-time captain and also led Rising Pune Supergiant to the finals of 2017.
3. Shreyas Iyer(23 years)
Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the captaincy of Delhi Capitals in 2008 and it passed on to Shreyas Iyer at that time. Shreyas Iyer has done wonders for the team as in 2019 Delhi Capitals played their first play-off match since 2012. In the next season, Delhi Capitals were the finalists of the season.
Shreyas Iyer was all set to lead the team in the next season, but due to injury he had to leave the season and in his place, Rishab Pant was appointed as the captain.
4. Suresh Raina (23 years)
Suresh Raina has led the CSK team only 6 times, which is the number of times MS Dhoni has not played a match with the team. The first time this happened was in 2010. Raina became the youngest captain in 2010 who led the IPL team, his record was broken by Virat Kohli in 2012.
5. Rishab Pant (23 years)
Rishab Pant took the captaincy of Delhi Capitals in 2021 after the injury update of Shreyas Iyer was announced. The team was performing well under his captaincy but he met with an accident and had to rest for the whole season. Hopefully, Rishab Pant will join his team in IPL 2024.
6. Shubman Gill(24 years)
After the announcement of Hardik Pandya returning to Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, Gujarat Titans appointed Shubhman Gill as their new captain. This will be the first season for him to lead and he will also have a little pressure on him as, in the past 2 seasons, GT has won the trophy once and was a finalist in the 2nd series.
