UEFA Champions League: Round of 16 results:
UEFA Champions League is back in business after the winter break, and the teams are grinding very hard to fight for the European title. The Round of 16 draws usually generate some of the most exciting football matches every year. In the last two weeks of February, we have seen a total of 8 matches played between 16 teams. Each of these games was very thrilling, and here are the results after the 1st leg of the UEFA Champions League.
1) Sevilla FC Vs Borussia Dortmund –
A tight match that Dortmund managed to win, all thanks to their young striker Erling Haaland. The teenage sensation was the MOM after he scored two exquisite goals to rocket his side to a win in the first leg of the Round of 16.
2) FC Porto Vs Juventus –
What turned out to be a huge upset, Porto was able to defeat the Italian giants Juventus in 2-1 match. With only 37% possession in the entire match, Mehdi Taremi and Moussa Marega helped Porto secure the win. With the likes of Ronaldo, De Ligt, and other big names, Juventus could not win.
3) RB Leipzig Vs Liverpool –
The Reds faced the Germans in a brilliant game that turned out to be in favor of Liverpool as they won 2-0. As a lot of people would expect, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane were the two goal scorers.
4) FC Barcelona Vs PSG –
Kylian Mbappe can’t stop scoring, can he? In a match that ended with a result of 4-1, Mbappe scored 3 goals to give PSG a huge boost in the 1st leg itself. Messi was the sole goal scorer for Barcelona.
5) Atletico Madrid Vs Chelsea –
In the first leg of the tournament, Thomas Tuchel’s side managed to dominate Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. Chelsea had 64% possession and 5 shots on target, where Atletico didn’t have a single shot placed anywhere near the target. Oliver Giroud scored a sensational goal to help Chelsea.
6) Lazio vs FC Bayern Munich –
The current champions of Europe, completely bamboozled the Lazio defence and got a decisive victory. In this fun to watch the game, Lewandowski was Bayern’s usual goal scorer. But, Jamal Musiala became the youngest Bayern player to score in the UEFA. The match ended in a 4-1 win for the Bavarians, and they now await the 2nd leg.
7) Atlanta Vs Real Madrid –
In this game, Real Madrid was able to emerge as the winners with a 1-0 result. The Spanish giants dominated the game from the start with almost 800 passes vs the 350 passes of Atlanta. Ferland Mendy was the only goal scorer of the night for Madrid.
8) Manchester City Vs Monchengladbach –
The match ended 2-0, with Pep Guardiola’s City managing to defeat the German side. Silva and Jesus were the two prolific goal scorers for the English team. Monchengladbach did manage to put up a tough fight, but it wasn’t enough.
