It’s been a very exciting week in the Champions League, and now it’s time for the teams to come back to the Premier League. 7 games will be played on Saturday, and Gameweek 5 kicks off on Saturday at 12:30 AM IST, 18th September. Let’s take a look at who’s playing, and what to expect from these games.
Newcastle United vs Leeds United
This game will take place at 12:30 AM IST, on Saturday at St. James Park. Both teams lost their last game by 3 goals, and are looking for their first victory of the season.
They are in 19th with 1D and 3L’s in 4 games. They have conceded 12 goals this season, the worst in the top flight.
Steve Bruce’s men couldn’t spoil the party at Old Trafford, but Saint-Maximin and Almiron had good games. They will need some more support, and Joe Willock whose known for arriving in the box late will have to do a lot of running this game.
Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, Jonjo Shelvey, and Martin Dubravka are all out due to injury.
We all know that Marcelo Bielsa plays with high intensity, but the start of the season has been underwhelming, to say the least. They are in 17th position, still without a win.
Leeds edge Newcastle in both expected goals and expected goals against. They beat the Toons in both the fixtures last season and will feel confident in registering their first win.
Struijk will miss out due to his red against Liverpool, and Centre back, Robin Koch is still out.
Prediction: Leeds to win, Bamford to get on the scoresheet
Wolves vs Brentford
The only game to take place at 5:00 PM IST is Wolves vs Brentford at the Molineux. Can Brentford come back from their first loss, or will Wolves continue their form after their first win of the season?
Wolves registered their first victory of the season, beating Watford 2-0 at their home.
New Signing Hwang Hee-Chan got his first for the club and is likely to start. Daniel Podence also came back from injury and looked menacing when dribbling past the Watford defense.
They are now in 13th and will want to continue their form. Willy Boly is back for selection, Pedro Neto and Otto are still out.
The bees were unlucky to take their first loss in last weekend’s game against Brighton.
The game was very equal in terms of possession and chances created, but a good goal in the 90th min was disappointing.
They are still exactly mid-table, in 10th, and will look to bounce back.
Key Midfielder Josh Da-Silva is still injured and unavailable. Brentford only won their first game.
Prediction: Wolves have found form, but I back Brentford to play good football and be able to nick a draw.
On Saturday, 18th September, there will be 4 fixtures in the premier league that will take place at 7:30 PM IST. All the games are streamed on Hotstar, and you can watch them all online on disney+ Hotstar.
Norwich City vs Watford
Both the newly promoted sides could do desperately with a win, both are predicted to go down and these could prove to be very important three points in their campaign.
Bottom of the table with 4 losses in 4 games and only scored 1 goal. Norwich does not look fit for the premier league this season.
Billy Gilmour and Ben Gibson were both dropped for Arsenal, but are likely to return. They still have players missing through injury in the likes of Zimmerman, Sam Byram, and Sargent
Watford has registered only one win, which they got on the opening weekend vs Aston Villa. Since then they’ve lost all three games.
Watford beat Norwich in both their fixtures in the Championship last season and will look forward to carrying that on into the Premier League.
They are still without Righ back, Kiko Femina, and their Brazilian attacker Joao Pedro.
Prediction: Both sides will desperately be going for the win, the loser even at such an early stage could be guaranteed to go down. I have not been impressed with Norwich this season, and expect Watford to get the win. Ismail Sarr will be key for Watford this game.
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
Will Crystal Palace be able to put an end to another unbeaten run, or will fit again Liverpool prove to be too Good?
Liverpool looks like a different unit since they’ve got the whole squad back. Van Dijk was able to rest for the UCL and will be feeling fresh for the game vs Palace.
Liverpool will look to continue their unbeaten run. Things are very tight at the top right now, and it won’t be a good time to drop points.
Mo Salah, who reached the 100 goal club last game, has scored 98 of those for Liverpool and will be looking to make it 100 for the club as well.
Harvey Elliot will miss out due to his injury vs Leeds, Firmino has returned to training but will not start.
Patrick Viera’s men will be looking to end another unbeaten run. The team was playing some good football, and their young exciting players all looked on the same page. They will be high in confidence, especially, Odsunne Edouard, who scored 2 goals in just 10 minutes of his debut.
Prediction: Liverpool are looking too strong, and I believe they’ll win this game comfortably. Mo Salah to definitely get on the scoresheet.
Manchester City vs Southampton
Pep’s team comes up against a struggling Southampton who is still looking for their first win of the season.
Pep’s ‘No-Striker’ Manchester City, is just coming from a 6-3 win in the champions league and had 5 different scorers. They should have definitely proved their doubters wrong by now, that they are scoring so freely.
Phil Foden & Kevin De Bruyne both featured in the champions league game, and are finally fit to play in the premier league. Back-up keeper, Zack Steffen is the only player missing through injury.
The Saint’s are 14th in the table and still haven’t registered a victory. They are finding it difficult to create chances in the attacking third, and it really looks like they’re missing their ex-talisman Danny Ings. They have drawn 3 out of their 4 games, and are gonna find it difficult to even get a point against.
Prediction: Manchester City is looking rampant, and there’s nobody who should be doubting that they’ll get the victory. I think for the first time in the league we’ll see De Bruyne and Grealish start together, as they just featured together in the UCL.
Burnley vs Arsenal
Burnley vs Arsenal is another clash at the bottom of the league for Arsenal, and Arteta needs to make sure his team goes on a run of wins and gets away from the bottom half of the table.
Sean Dyche’s men lost their last game vs Everton, and are in 18th position still looking for their first win. Burnley has always made it difficult for Arsenal at Turf Moore, and the opposition has never been more vulnerable. Burnley will look to get their first victory of the season, and leapfrog Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta & co. earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory vs Norwich, and were able to move off the bottom of the table. Going into their game vs Burnley, Arteta really needs to make sure his players are ready, and able to get the win. Captain Aubameyang got on the scoresheet last game and will be key in getting the players ready for their game vs Burnley
Prediction: Burnley always shows up to games when they really need to, I really think Arsenal is a weak team this year, and don’t have the experience. Burnley will make this game a rough game, and I think they’ll nick the victory.
Aston Villa vs Everton
Aston Villa is struggling to cope with the departure of Jack Grealish, and Everton is still unbeaten in the premier league and mixing with the top dogs. This is the only fixture to take place at 10:00 PM IST. Will Villa end Everton’s unbeaten run?
Villa’s only victory this season came against Newcastle at home. In their last game, they did perform pretty well but were beaten due to a lack of quality in front of goal, and personal mistakes. Dean Smith, however, is a good manager and will look to rejuvenate his players and hope they can end Everton’s unbeaten run.
Rafa Benitez looks like he belongs to the blue side of Merseyside. He and Ancelotti tend to play a similar style of football, and he’s benefiting with the squad that was there last season as well. New signings of Gray and Townsend have also been great additions to their squad and they will look to continue their unbeaten run.
Prediction: I think Everton will continue their unbeaten run but will end up dropping points, as both sides are equally strong and I think it’ll be a goal-scoring draw.
