Premier League Review: Everton vs Burnley

With game week 4 coming to an end, the only Premier League match on Tuesday was Everton vs Burnley.

The Toffees came back from a goal down to beat Burnley 3-1 at Goodison Park. Everton continues their unbeaten run, and they are fourth in the table. Sean Dyche’s Burnley is in the relegation zone, getting only one point of their first 4 games, and in 18th.

Rafa Benitez loved again at Merseyside

Rafa Benitez’s Everton has started off with flying colors in the premier league. The ex-Liverpool manager had a lot of Everton fans doubting his appointment as manager.

However, Benitez has instantly won the fans over by winning 3 out of the 4 games and on 10 points, same as Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

Everton went down in the game vs Burnley in the 53rd minute but responded extremely well. They scored 3 goals in the span of 7 minutes(60-67) and comfortably saw the game out.

New signings, the key for Everton

Everton is a club that has a reputation for spending a lot in the transfer window, and normally the signings don’t go as well as expected. This season, they only spent a total of £1.7M on Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.

These signings are definitely paying dividends. Demarai Gray already has 3 goals in 4 games for Everton, scoring the third yesterday vs Burnley.

Andros Townsend was signed on a free from Crystal Palace, and he’s just the experienced winger Rafa Benitez was looking for. Townsend was on fire vs Burnley, setting up the first for Michael Keane with a perfect cross, and he got a goal to go with his assist.

Andros has a reputation for only scoring worldies, and he didn’t disappoint, cutting onto his left foot and letting it fly from 30 yards out, top left-hand corner, Nick Pope had no chance.

Finally, the year that Burnley go down?

Sean Dyche, Burnley, Premier League, Relegation

Sean Dyche did really well to keep Burnley up last season, they finished 17th just clear of the drop zone. However, due to COVID, a lot of contracts were not signed, as Burnley couldn’t offer enough money.

The Centre-back partnership of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski, who are the main pillars of the club are both out of contract at the end of this season. Club Captain, Ben Mee scored Burnley’s goal to give them the lead against Everton, but that didn’t last long.

Sean Dyche’s men look like they could fall short this season, Burnley has 9 players whose contracts end this season, and it’s possible they aren’t really thinking about the club anymore.

Sean Dyche has made Burnley a mainstay in the premier league, and it’s always been difficult to go and get points at Turf Moor. However, with the majority of the teams playing more progressive football than Burnley, and them having a bad start to this season, is the season that the Claret’s get relegated?
