Carabao Cup: Round 3 results

The EFL league cup, referred to as the Carabao Cup took place last night. Round 3, is usually when the bigger English teams come into the tournament and start their cup campaign. Last night there were a few matches that had the big teams featuring in them, let overview all the results from the Carabao cup fixtures.

The Big Dogs make it look easy

Manchester City faced League 1 side, Wycombe Wanderers. They beat them 6-1 at Etihad. There was a slight setback as Wycombe took the lead, but City’s senior players like Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, and Riyad Mahrez were too good for the opposition, and all made it on the scoresheet.

The Citizens have won this cup four times in a row, and will be looking to make it five this season.

Liverpool had a tougher match against Premier League club , Norwich City. A heavily rotated Liverpool side still won the game 3-0 with ease. Japanese attacker, Minamino scored two goals. Norwich had the opportunity to draw level with a penalty when they were 1-0 down, however, back up keeper, Kelleher made a save to keep it at 1-0. Divock Origi also got on the scoresheet, and it was easy pickings for the Reds.

Premier League upsets

Championship sides, QPR and Stoke City, toppled over Everton and Watford respectively.

QPR vs Everton ended in a 2-2 draw and QPR won the game on penalties. Veteran striker, Charlie Austin scored both for QPR, and a Tom Davies penalty miss meant QPR won the game.

Watford got beat 3-1 at home against stoke. Ex Man United academy product, Nick Powell gave stoke the lead followed by goals from Clucas and Josh Tymon. Ashley Fletcher was the only scorer for the Hornets in a game that sees them out of the Carabao cup.

Rest of the results

Leeds and Southampton were both taken to penalties by Fulham and Sheffield, who were relegated from the Premier League last season. The luck was on the current Prem sides, as they both went through on penalties.

Newly promoted side, Brentford continue their great form beating league 2 side Oldham Athletic 7-0. Burley also faced a league 2 side in Rochdale, Jay Rodriguez scored four goals for the clarets to give them a 4-1 victory.

In a battle of old school Premier League teams, Sunderland beat Wigan 2-0.

Lastly, Preston beat Cheltenham 4-1 in a game consisting of both teams from the lower leagues of England.
