World-cup qualification round-up

With the international break coming to an end, here’s a round-up of how some of the big teams faired in their qualification matches for the 2022 World Cup.


The Euros runners-up registered two 4-0 victories in their world cup qualifiers. Hungary and Andorra were comfortably beaten by England, unfortunately, the first game vs Hungary was not about football as the English players were racially abused. Fifa will take action by penalizing the Hungarian football association.

In the second game, Gareth Southgate handed out a debut to Leeds striker Patrick Bamford. Trent Alexander-Arnold was tried in a new midfield role.
Star performer vs Andorra was Jesse Lingard, bagging two goals and one assist making his club manager Ole-Solskjaer aware of him.


Memphis Netherlands world cup

La Oranje was knocked out in the round of 16 by the Czech Republic. Going into the qualifiers they had their captain Virgil Van Djik back and the Netherlands took no prisoners winning, 4-0 and 6-1 vs Montenegro and Turkey respectively.

Memphis Depay, who has been in sublime form for his club continued it into the international breaking bagging a brace in the first game, and a hat-trick in the second one. The Netherlands also drew to Norway 1-1.


European champions looked a bit hungover after winning their trophy as they were held to two stalemates.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the leading international top-scorer by bagging two in Portugal’s first game against the Republic of Ireland. Cristiano was sent back to the UK after the first game.

Portugal still managed a convincing 3-0 victory vs Azerbaijan. Goals from Bernardo, Andre Silva, and Jota put Portugal comfortably at 6 points.


Norway has been the surprise package of this international break, winning 2 and drawing 1. Their 5-1 win against Gibraltar saw the young machine Haaland bag a Hat-trick.

Their 2-0 win against Latvia also saw the striker bagging another goal. They drew the Netherlands 1-1.


Les Bleus looked a bit off-color in their first two games being held to 1-1 draws vs Bosnia and Ukraine.

They capped off the international break with a 2-0 win vs Finland. Ex- Barcelona star whose back at his beloved Atleti scored a brace to guide France to this victory.
