Premier League: Weekend Review

With Gameweek 4 coming to end, it’s been a very exciting weekend in the Premier League. All the big teams held their ground, and there were some unexpected results. Let’s dive into reviewing the results, highlighting the main talking points of the weekend.

Cristiano gets his theatre dreaming again

Old Trafford, also referred to as the Theatre of Dreams, couldn’t have asked for a better result on the return of their prodigal son. Ronaldo guided Manchester United to a 4-1 victory against Newcastle United and bagged a brace on his debut.

It was a brilliant display from United’s Portuguese men, as Bruno Fernandes scored a wonder goal in the game. Jesse Lingard scored late on and continued his international form into the Premier League.

Newcastle had a good spell for 10-15 minutes in the game but was on the backfoot and outclassed by United’s sensational squad. This victory took Manchester United to the top of the league.

Romelu, the missing piece to Tuchel’s puzzle

Chelsea beat Aston Villa 3-0, with the other striker signed from Serie-A, also bagging a brace. Romelu Lukaku and co. won this game, but it wasn’t as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.

Aston Villa had several chances in the game, Chelsea keeper Edou Mendy had a great game and managed to keep their 3rd clean sheet of the season. Romelu Lukaku was slotted in brilliantly by Kovacic for the first goal. Chelsea’s new number 8 ran the midfield, and got on the scoresheet as well, capitalizing on a mistake from Villa captain, Tyrone Mings.

LUKAKU CHELSEA PREMIER LEAGUE

Chelsea’s third came in the dying minutes of the game, Romelu Lukaku capped the game off with a beautiful strike in the 90th minute. These were Rom’s first two goals for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and you could see how much they meant to the Belgian. Chelsea is 2nd, only behind on Goals scored.

Tottenham, unbeaten no more

Spurs’ unbeaten run came to an end, as they took a 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace. They went down to 10-men when Tanganga got two yellows in the space of 10 minutes.

Wilfred Zaha put the Eagles ahead from the penalty spot, and new signing Odssonne Edouard came on in the 80th minute and bagged a brace, the best way to announce himself to the fans.

Heung-Min Son missed this game, and even with Harry Kane returning, Tottenham’s front line looked depleted.

Manchester city outgun the Foxes

Man City got a hard-fought 1-0 victory, against Leicester City at the King Power stadium. Bernardo Silva scored the only goal of the game, which dropped to him via a deflection of Soyuncu.

Leicester City had their chances, Jamie Vardy had a goal ruled out for offside, and had many more chances in the game. This was the first game where Man City’s ‘No striker’ concept was causing themselves slight problems.

Liverpool ease past Leeds

Klopp’s men comfortably beat Leeds 3-0. Harvey Elliot got a terrible injury, and the whole footballing community wishes him a speedy recovery.

Scoring was opened by none other than Mo Salah, coming onto a beautiful pull-back from Trent. Fabinho scored the second from a corner, and Sadio Mane sealed the deal after finally burying one of his many chances in the game,

Leeds Patrick Struijk, who came on as a sub was sent off, because of his tackle on Elliot. Liverpool is on the same points as Chelsea and Manchester United, and only behind by goals scored.

Results from the rest of the games

Bottom place Arsenal finally registered their first win of the season, over Norwich City. It was a hard-fought victory, the Gunners won only 1-0 courtesy of their captain Aubameyang’s tap-in. Nicolas Pepe was Arsenal’s main threat, and Mikel Arteta will now wish for Arsenal to go on a run of victories.

Brentford vs Brighton was a very tactical game. Brighton just nicked the game 1-0, with a 90th-minute winner from their Belgian ace, Leo Trossard.

Southampton vs West Ham ended in a goalless draw. West Ham’s main man, and FPL king, Michael Antonio saw red and will miss out on their next game.

Wolves got their first victory of the season, beating Watford 2-0 at Vicarage road. New signing, Hwang-Hee-Chan netted his first goal for the club after Wolves took the lead through an own goal.

Everton vs Burnley is taking place on Tuesday, 12:30 am. With European competitions starting this week, expect some squad rotation from the big clubs to keep their players fit for the exciting next weekend of the premier league.
