WTC-Top 6 Run-Scorers

The World Test Championship 2019-2021 cycle started with commencement of The Ashes, 2019 in England. Australia touring England for The Ashes marked the sommencement date for WTC.. The Ashes was the perfect set up for a huge tournament like WTC! Test Cricket saw a lot of runs in past 2 years. Batsmen have scored runs on turning tracks, sluggish pitches, swinging conditions, tracks with variable bounce and flat tracks as well. Here are the top seven run scorers of WTC 2019-21 cycle

Rohit Sharma

Ro-HITMAN Sharma has been India’s second highest run scorer in the WTC. He has scored 1030 runs, 65 less than Ajinkya Rahane. Rohit has averaged 64.37 in 11 matches!! It is the third highest after Marnus Labuschagne and Babar Azam. He has also hit the second most number of sixes, 27, just behind Ben Stokes(31). A lot of questions arised on his calibre and temperament to play Test Cricket, but he surely has shushed his critics. Being a limited overs’ legend, he strikes the ball in test cricket at 64.49!

Ajinkya Rahane

AJinkya Rahane, aka Jynx, tops off Rohit Sharma’s tally by 65 runs. He is the highest scorer for India in the WTC. He tallies 1095 runs at an average of 43.80. Despite going through a lean patch recently, he has been there for India whenever the team needed. Deputy to captain Virat Kohli, Ajinkya is the best vice-captain there is. For-instance, Ajinkya has never lost a test match whenever he has led the team! His most impactful knock, some might say his best, came against Australia at the MCG. A brilliant match winning century, making up for selling his captain down the river in the previous match.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes, the champion all rounder, has always been a top quality batsmen. Despite playing in seaming wickets and in the subcontinent, he has placed himself at 4th position in the top run scorers list. Aggregating 1334 runs at an average of 46 and a SR of 57.79. This strike rate is a due result of one of his record. He has hit the highest number of sixes in the WTC, i.e 31 sixes!Reverse sweeping Nathan Lyon for a six when 56 runs were needed and only 1 wicket left at Leeds will always remain embedded in our memories. Stokesy’s top most performance ever!!

Steve Smith

Limited overs’ might not be SPD Smith’s forte but when it comes to Test cricket, he is truly one of the best player there is. 1341 runs in just 13 innings at a whopping average of 63.85! Steve was banned for an entire year on regard of the sandpaper gate. Returning to test cricket after 1 year, being boo-ed by the crowd in Birmigham, Steve shut everyone with his bat. He scored 144 runs in the first innings and 142 in the other to guide his team into victory. Only 2 times has Steve Smith suffered in these past 2 years of WTC. Against Neil Wagner’s bouncer/leg side trap and Ravichandran Ashwin’s mastermind set ups.

Joe Root

Joe Root, an year ago was ranked lowest out of the fab four. The cricketing world has coined Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root as the fab four of this generation.. Root has proved all his haters wrong by being the second highest scorer in first cycle of WTC and highest from the fab four. Despite having a poor start to the WTC, Root has managed to score 1660 runs at an average of 47.42. He dominated Sri Lanka and India in the sub continent, hitting a double century against both of them.

Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is the highest run scorer in the WTC 2019-21 cycle. Despite hitting just 3 sixes in 13 matches, Marnus ha scored 1675 runs at a sky rocketing average of 72.82. There has been a lot of mocking on the way he plays or reacts. But, this never hampers the mindset of this freakishly talented guy. He has always admired his inspiration cum best friend Steve Smith. South Africa borned Marnus, has fixed his place in Australia cricket team for a pretty long time.
