Shai Hope helped West Indies register a win in the first match of the three-match West Indies vs Sri Lanka series. The second match is set to be played on the 12th of March at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, scheduled at 7 p.m. as per Indian Standard Time.
First Match:
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Their openers Danushka Gunathilaka and Dimuth Karunaratne were looking good at the start of the innings. Both of them scored half-centuries and, after their wickets, Sri Lanka did not capitalize the score, only Ashen Bandara got some runs, and nobody else from the middle order gave him any support, as required. Bandara also scored a half-century. Apart from these three fifties, the highest scorer of the innings was Lakshan Sandakan with 16 runs.
In the second innings, it was as easy as it could get for West Indies. They got a target of 233 runs, which was not a defendable score in those conditions. Evin Lewis and Shai Hope set the foundation for Windies by scoring a partnership of 143 runs until Evin Lewis was bowled by Dushmantha Chameera for 65 runs. Shai Hope went on to score a century, and they won the match by 8 wickets.
Second Match:
This match is going to be an important one for Sri Lanka, they have the series on the line. If West Indies win this match, they will win the series. Sri Lanka will not want that. Their middle-order needs to do well to win the match. The team winning the toss would be looking to bat first and defend later on. The thing to look forward to in this match is if Sri Lanka bounces back and level the series or West Indies win the match and also the series.
