In a complete turnaround of events, fans are officially allowed in 50 per cent capacity to enter PCA stadium on 4th March 2022. The100th test match of Virat Kohli against Sri Lanka earlier was supposed to be played behind closed doors. Due to the arrival of the third wave restrictions were once again imposed. However, on Tuesday evening the secretary of BCCI Jay Shah announced that the former skipper’s milestone game will not be played behind the closed door.
Jay Shah reflects on the situation
“The first Test between India and Sri Lanka to be played at the Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali will not be held behind closed doors. The decision to allow spectators into the ground is one taken by the State Cricketing Associations and in the present circumstances, is based on various factors.”Jay Shah
Jay shah further added by saying
“I am really looking forward to Virat Kohli’s 100th Test and wish our champion cricketer the very best. This is an occasion for our fans to savour. May he continue to represent the country in many more matches to come.”Jay Shah
This sudden change in the decision was made after the policy change. Singla said that
“We got the communication from the BCCI about the allowing of fans for the first Test match. BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal called us and informed us that 50 per cent crowd will be allowed. We are now making necessary arrangements.”Singla
A lot of fans will be at ease after this announcement. The 100th match of Virat Kohli without fans would have left a feeling of emptiness. But now chants of Kohli will echo around the PCA stadium. Virat and other players won’t face empty seats as they lift their heads to find space in the field. Fans can tune in to Star Sports to watch India vs Sri Lanka from 9:00 am IST.
