Vijay Hazare Trophy:
The other name for Vijay Hazare Trophy is the Ranji One-Day Trophy. It originated in 2002 to 2003 in the form of a domestic cricket match with restricted overs.
It includes teams formed from the states playing for the Ranji Trophy matches.
It has been named after the renowned Indian cricketer Mr. Vijay Hazare. Born in the district of Sangli in Maharashtra, he has claimed many records and feats to his performance. He was a right-handed batsman and categorized as medium pacer in the bowling category. He was the captain of the Indian Cricket team from 1951 to 1953. Under his leadership, India won the first test match against England.
His scorecard spoke about his exemplary performance in the ground with 60 first-class centuries, including 7 in test matches. He also scored ten first-class double centuries, which includes 6 in test matches.
All about The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021:
The Vijay Hazare trophy was last played in 2019- 2020, securing a win against Tamil Nadu in the deciding match. Tamil Nadu has emerged out to be winning the maximum trophy times, i.e., five times.
The current title is held by Karnataka, who secured a win against Tamil Nadu for the season 2019 to 2020. Due to the ongoing Corona crisis, the BCCI authorities have decided to hold the Vijay Hazare Trophy and cancel the Ranji Trophy for this season.
It is being held from 20th February to 14th March this year. Initially, group-level matches will take place till March 1st. Taking a week-long short break, the knockout matches will begin on March 8th. The semi-finals and the final game are set to be played on March 11th and 14th, respectively.
Zone wise grouping of teams:
Till seasons held within 2003 to 2015, there were 27 teams divided into five zones. From 2018 to 19 seasons onwards, the teams are split among the top 3 groups and one plate group. There are nine teams in the top 2 groups, whereas there are ten teams in the 3rd leading group.
The plate group has nine new teams. The grouping of the teams is done based on average points secured in the previous 3 seasons. Check out the zone wise grouping of the competing teams for this season.

Venues for conducting the matches:
The teams are instructed to go through quarantine and Covid-19 tests at their respective host states or cities on February 13th. The Vijay Hazare Trophy will be conducted in 6 venues given by the BCCI which are listed
