Proteas Captain Temba Bavuma out of Sri Lanka tour. New captain appointed.

South-African captain, Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the Sri Lanka tour due a broken thumb. He acquired this injury while batting against Sri Lanka in the 2nd innings of the 1st ODI between the teams. He was initially retired out in the innings.

THE INJURY CONCERN :

Bavuma ruled out of the series.

The incident took place on Wednesday when Bavuma copped a direct blow to his thumb during the 26th over of play. Temba Bavuma scored 38 runs, as he was the key link between the openers and middle orders.

Now because of his injury, it means Reeza Hendricks can get a chance to play and Aiden Markaram will have to move to no.3.

NEW CAPTAIN ?

Maharaj has played 12 matches for the Proteas and has scalped 15 wickets at an outstanding economy of 4.77.

With Temba Bavuma not there as captain Keshav Maharaj has will captain the side for the remaining ODI’s. The captain for T20 series will be announced in the due course.

South Africa are 1-0 down in series as they lost the 1st Odi by 14 runs. The second match will take place on Saturday.

Aiden Markram stated that Bavuma’s injury halted the momentum and due to that the partnership got broken. Due to the injury, Proteas lost the match.
