Can AUSTRALIA WIN THEIR FIRST MEN T20 WORLD CUP ???
TEAM PREVIEW :
This time, their team is looking good but their form is not. Australia has only managed to win five matches out of the 18 T20is they have played in the last four series. Also, they faced a horrible series defeat from Bangladesh for the first time in any format.
AUSTRALIA SQUAD :
Australia has announced a strong squad with big names like Steve Smith, David Warner, Mitchell Starc, etc.
MAIN HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SQUAD :
Josh Inglis selected over Alex Carey
Josh Inglis has been selected over Wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey for the T20 World Cup. Alex Carey who featured in mostly every T20i game for Australia over a year has been dropped from the squad after showing promising performances.
Whereas, Josh Inglis, who is an un-capped player has been given chance due to his form in The Hundred and BBL. Inglis has scored 173 runs in seven innings in The Hundred and 413 runs in 16 innings in Big Bash League. Due to his recent form he is been selected over Alex Carey.
Maxwell’s Form in IPL
Glenn Maxwell is at his peak of his career, he is representing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and has performed really well for them at No.4 spot. He has smacked 407 runs in just 11 innings at a strike rate of 145. He has scored five 50’s in this edition itself. Maxwell has aclimitised himself well in the Asian conditions. He can prove to be a great asset for Australia at no.4 and with his off-break.
David Warner and Steve Smith not in form
David Warner has not been in the form, we know him about. Warner had the worst IPL this edition, he has just been able to score 195 runs in 8 innings at a strike rate of 107.73. He has played his last international T20 against England last year. Since then he has gone through injuries or given rest on some tours.
Whereas, Steve Smith has had a good run in IPL but has not got chances to show his mettle. He has scored 152 runs in 7 innings at slow strike rate of 112. With both of them not in form, will pave the opportunities for players like Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis and Matthew Wade to show their talent and experience.
