On this day in 2016, Royal Challengers Bangalore faced the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals of the Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore had been in excellent form. The match was set to take place in the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.
Bangalore being firm favorites to win the match playing in front of their home supporters where they had performed very nicely throughout the tournament.
Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat first. Opening the batting for the Hyderabad franchise were Shikhar Dhawan and Captain David Warner. The pair got off to a blistering start and ran through the first six overs without loosing a wicket. Sunrisers knew they had to set a huge target for Bangalore to chase as their batsman has been in best of forms throughout the season. Hyderabad completed 208/7 in their quota of 20 overs. David Warner was the highest scorer with 69. Ben Cutting and Yuvraj Singh made major contributions to help Hyderabad set a massive target for Bangalore.
For Bangalore opening the innings were Chris Gayle and Captain Virat Kohli. Virat had set a new record in the season for scoring four centuries in one season. Bangalore started their innings with positive intent and went full-on attack against the Hyderabad bowlers. At the halfway mark had not lost any wickets with a good scoring rate. But then after the loss of Chris Gayle in the 11th over the team could not perform after a wonderful start provided by the openers. Eventually lost the match by 8 runs and able to score 200/7 in their quota of 20 overs.
