Sunil Gavaskar, a former India captain, believes Ruturaj Gaikwad has the potential to represent the country in all three forms in the future. Gaikwad was the IPL 2021 season’s leading run scorer.
India will host New Zealand in a three-match home series beginning November 17 after failing to qualify for the T20 World Cup semi-finals. Three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) will precede two Test matches against New Zealand’s Blackcaps. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the squads for both the T20I and Test series. Many key players on both teams were rested, resulting in dramatic roster changes.
In their absence, the selection committee chose players who impressed during the IPL 2021. They include IPL 2021 orange cap champion Ruturaj Gaikwad and debutants Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel, and Avesh Khan.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was thrilled to see IPL players join the national team. He praised all four players, but he praised Ruturaj Gaikwad’s decision in particular.
Ruturaj Gaikwad had an outstanding IPL campaign.
Ruturaj Gaikwad had a tremendous season in the Indian Premier League, reaching 635 runs and won the Orange Cap. Several seasoned players praised the rookie opener’s impressive batting for the champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Gavaskar has high hopes for Gaikwad and believes the right-handed batter can help India achieve success in all three forms in the future.
“He possesses extraordinary talent and is a gifted player who will aid India in all three formats of the game due to his vast range of shots and excellent shot selection, he possesses the essential technique and temperament to deal with any circumstance.
As a result, I’m excited to follow his international development.” Gavaskar said this on Sports Today.
Gaikwad, who plays for Maharashtra, debuted against Sri Lanka earlier this year. He will, however, get another chance against New Zealand in a three-match Twenty20 International series led by Rohit Sharma.
