The finale of the Asia Cup 2022 was played at Dubai International Stadium where Sri Lanka showed a terrific game to win this Asian Saga for the 6th time.
Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 23 runs to get a comfortable win in the finale of the Asia Cup. In the match, Pakistani captain Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sri Lanka did not have a good start and they were struggling at 166 for 6 wickets. Then, Bhanuka Rajapaksa came to the crease and played a splendid inning of 71 runs off just 45 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from him, all-rounder Wanindu Hasranga got crucial 36 runs in just 21 balls.
With this, Sri Lanka hanged a total of 170 runs at the board at the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
For Pakistan, Haris Rauf got the maximum 3 wickets, along with him Naseem Shah, Shadab Khan, and Iftikhar Ahmed bagged one wicket each.
Chasing the target of 171 runs, Pakistan lost captain Babar Azam on an individual score of 5 runs. Fakhar Zaman also returned to the pavilion with opening his account. The team’s wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan then carried the innings ahead and scored a slow 55 off 49 balls. Apart from Rizwan, only Iftikhar Ahmed got 32 runs. Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and missed the target by 23 runs. With this win, Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup after 8 years.
For Sri Lanka, Pramod Madushan got the maximum 4 wickets, Wanindu Hasranga got 3 wickets, Chamika Karunaratne got 2 wickets and Maheesh Theekshana managed to get one wicket.
Sri Lankan batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa received the man of the match award for his superb 71 runs, while his compatriot Wanindu Hasaranga bagged the man of the series award for the Asia Cup 2022.
