Preview:
Given that a few big names were missing from both the squads, many expected the first T20I between New Zealand and Pakistan to be a closely contested one. However, it would have been a one-sided affair has it not been for the brilliance of Shadab Khan. Reeling at 39/5 at one stage, Khan’s knock of 42 and some important contributions from Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf helped Pakistan put up a respectable total of 153.
They started off well with the ball as both Martin Guptill and Devon Conway were dismissed very early in the chase. However, Tim Seifert’s half-century and some commendable supporting acts from Mark Chapman and Glenn Phillips helped seal the deal for the Kiwis. Pakistan will be desperate to bounce back in the second T20I, but it will be very tough as some big names in Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Tim Southee will be back in the New Zealand camp.
