Former and current Indian cricketers expressed their admiration for Shreyas Iyer’s knock during the team’s first innings against New Zealand in Kanpur on social media.
Shreyas Iyer became the 16th Indian cricketer to score a century on his Test debut as a result of his century. Iyer accomplished the feat on the second day of the ongoing Test match between India and New Zealand at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.
As a result, Iyer joins the likes of Lala Amarnath, Deepak Shodhan, AG Kripal Singh, Abbas Ali Baig, Hanumant Singh, Gundappa Vishwanath, and Surender Amarnath in scoring hundreds on their Test debuts. Mohammad Azharuddin, Pravin Amre, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, and Shikhar Dhawan are among the other notables.
His success at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium makes him only the second Indian cricketer (after Vishwanath) to achieve the feat there.
Following his knock during India’s first innings in Kanpur, several former and current Indian players flocked to social media to praise Iyer’s efforts.
Iyer’s efforts helped India score 345 runs in the first inning. Tim Southee took five wickets for the hosts, while Kyle Jamieson and Ajaz Patel took three and two wickets, respectively.
In response, New Zealand was 129/0 at stumps on the second day, with openers Will Young (75) and Tom Latham (50) both blasting half-centuries.
