Netherlands defeat Ireland in first ODI

Netherlands defeat Ireland in the first ODI in Utrecht. It is Netherland’s first point in the Super League. Netherland defeated Ireland first time after 2007 in International ODI. It is a historical and morale-boosting day for the Dutch National side.

Netherlands won the toss and decided to Bat first in Utrecht.

The Netherlands got off to a shaky start after being reduced for 53/5 in the first 15 overs. At that, it looked that Ireland would run through the Netherlands batting line-up easily and bundle them in less than 120 runs. Saqib Zulfiqar and Bas De Leede notched a partnership in the middle to save the team from collapsing. Logan Van Beek and Timm Van Der Gugten built a partnership after both Saqib Zulfiqar and Bas De Leede went back to the pavilion in a space of 5 balls. The Netherlands ended on 195/10 in their quota of 50 overs. Timm Van Der Gugten highest scorer at 49.

It looked Ireland’s game at the half way mark with the experience in the Ireland squad.

Ireland also got off to a shaky start like the Netherlands. They lost 5 wickets for 69 in 22 overs. The match was still in favor of the Irish team with the experience they had. The game was on its nerves but quality bowling from the Dutch team helped the team win from Ireland by just a solitary run difference. Ireland finished 194/9 in 50 overs. This defeat was their first time after 2007 from the Netherlands.

Timm Van Der Gugten won the the Man of the Match.
