Ready for the second innings
The restart of IPL 2021 is just round the corner so is the return of one of its most popular team Chennai Super Kings. The IPL phase two starts from 19th September 2021.
The CSK team has a worldwide following and are favourites to win the IPL 2021. After a facing a loss in the very first match of the season against Delhi Capitals. MS Dhoni led side made a strong comeback and won five games on the trot before losing to Mumbai Indians in a high scoring encounter played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Will age and UAE come back to haunt CSK?
The Super Kings previously had a very poor tournament in the UAE and were heavily trolled and criticised for the average age of their squad and poor form.
But as they say everyday is a new day, CSK answered all their critics with five wins from seven games in the ongoing season. They are comfortably sitting on the second position in the league standings.
The super kings are going in the with same squad in the second phase. They expect all their foreign stars to feature in the tournament.
South African superstar Faf Du Plessis was the matter of concern for the CSK team management as the latter suffered concussion injuries. But looking at the African veteran return to action in the CPL, the CSK management seems relaxed.
CSK arrived early in August and underwent quarantine for 6 days. They started to train for the restart on 20th August 2021.
Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja and Faf Du Plessis will all be raring to go and carry on with their wonderful performances from the first phase of the IPL. Moeen came in as a big blessing for the Super Kings. Ali’s not only handy with the bat in the middle overs but is also a primary bowling asset for Dhoni.
Ravindra Jadeja was having the IPL of his life. The Indian all rounder was performing well with both bat and the ball. Adding to these skills is his lightening quick movement in the field where he can change match scenarios single handedly.
Du Plessis was running a havoc in the top order with his bat alongside youngster Rituraj Gaikwad. The South African was CSK’s highest run getter in the first phase with 320 runs at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 145.45.
CSK would hope that their ongoing team combination fires all cylinders in the second phase and try to capture the team’s fourth IPL title.
