With the battle for qualification in IPL 2021 heating up , both the teams that are led by the Indian national team openers will be looking to get the better of each other and get the two points.
PBKS & MI are both on 8 points, along with KKR and RR. If KKR loses to DC earlier in the day, then both of the teams will have the chance to go into the fourth spot.
Both teams have had contrasting starts to phase 2 of the IPL. Punjab Kings lost their first game which slipped out of their palms, as they should’ve easily won vs RR. In the second game, they defended 125 only and managed to beat SRH.
Mumbai Indians on the other hand have had a torrid time in UAE, losing all three of the games they’ve played in phase 2.
IPL 2021: Match Overview
When: September 28, 2021, 7:30 IST
Where: Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Pitch Report: Pitch hasn’t been as fast as it was in previous seasons. Batting second in the evening has proven to be easier. Fielding teams aim to use the long boundary to their advantage.
The 5-time IPL champions have a reputation of starting tournaments slow, and they haven’t disappointed as this time they’ve started phase 2 of IPL 2021 in very bad form. Rohit Sharma and co. have lost all three games they’ve played in this phase.
The main concern for MI is also a big concern for the Indian team, and that is the form of their middle order. Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav who have both been picked for the World Cup in October, have been in terrible form, to say the least. The Pandya brothers have also not been able to contribute with neither ball nor bat.
MI is generally a Unit that doesn’t make any changes to their lineup, and since there are no injuries, the same team is expected to be backed, and hopefully, get their first win of this phase.
Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Adam Milne, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult
This is going to be a very crucial game for the Punjab King’s charge to make it into the top four. PBKS has looked impressive in the second phase, and they’re coming up against an MI squad that’s low on confidence. KL Rahul needs to make sure all his troops are up and ready for the task ahead of them.
The bowling unit looked commendable as they defended 125 against SRH. Spearheaded by Mohammed Shami, PBKS has a really exciting bowling lineup that also includes youngsters Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi who have all been impressive throughout the season.
The team decided to play Gayle last game vs SRH, if they continue with that decision it makes their top 5 batsmen very strong, and has a destructive side if everybody fires. Anil Kumble will be hoping his team fires on every cylinder, and if they do so they’ll have a good chance of winning the game.
All players are fit and available.
KL Rahul (c/wk), Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Harpreet Brar, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami, Nathan Ellis, Arshdeep Singh
